A6 oil leak

I have been fighting oil leaks on our 98 A6 2.8 30V for some time now. I have 
replaced the valve cover gaskets twice, but have not solved the "drip on the 
exhaust" smell that makes the car an embarrassment to drive. In spite of not 
solving all the leaking problems the valve cover gaskets were leaking, so the 
effort was not wasted. The rear diff seals leaked on the exhaust as well and I 
replaced them last month.
Our car is not a shining example of "superior German engineering". I have 
also had mechanics relate that this is "common on these cars". My (20 year old) 
83 URQ is much better quality in my opinion.
