smog check

Sacramento, CA area has been this way for a while now. All the smog shops had to buy 2 wheel drive chasis dynos to run the cars on. All the Audi quattros are exept from the dyno test and just get the 2 speed idle test (2500 rpm no load and idle no load).
A little Test Only shop (they are not allowed to do repairs) went in near my house and he charges $49 plus the certificate but gives a $10 discount and retests for free if the car fails. I don't understand the charge for the certificate (about $8 or $9) since they don't give you a certificate they just send it electronically to the DMV database.
Shop around and see what you can find.

Yeah, "Smog Check II" is now in effect and the smog stations around
tha SF bay area have to invest $$$$ in new machines. Things are
getting expensive.

They are soon going to (if not already) require running the car
with a load (tires on rollers) while measuring smog, but I think
AWD is exempt.
