Removing rear window in Audi 5000

It cuts out with a special knife, or something along the lines of piano
wire. Just make sure the urethane is warm, or you will get very frusterated.

I just had a branch go through abd shatter the rear (back) window.  I have
found a replacement in a junk yard, but I cannot figure out how to remove
the new window.  The old window seal can be pried off with a knife.  It
appears the glass is bonded to the body and I can't get a knife blade under
the chrome trim to break the seal.  I've tried also to remove the glass from
inside the car and the seal is too tough to penetrate.

Am I missing something?  The car is on its last legs and will most likely be
gone in six months, so I don't want to invest a lot of money in glass
replacement.
