My Bose does the same thing, and it takes a while for the rear speakers to
kick in. I too have many tapes to play, but most of the time only the left
side speakers work. That may be a head adjustment issue because I have all
speakers working, and whining, at the same time with the radio playing.
Ti Kan may have the answer.
