I found that as well. The rubber could be argued to be normal life span, 
although short for my experience, but that breather "stuff/hose" looks like 
something off a Subaru or Lumina. No I don't have personal experience with either, 
just acquaintances cars. You know- "friends don't let friends drive (marque of 
your choice)".
