Tim, I replaced the blower motor on my 86 Audi 5000.  I would NEVER
replace it with a used one because I don't EVER want to do that again!
It is probably THE worst job on these cars.  I'm not sure how similar
your 90 is, but I bet it's along the same lines.

While you're in there, I would suggest replacing the heater core as
well.

First of all, do a bit of diagnosis to make sure it is the blower motor.
Undo the plug and apply voltage to see if it will run.  If it doesn't,
then it's gone.  If it does run, then your problems may be in the
climate controller.  However, from your description of the failure, it
sounds like indeed the brushes on the blower motor are gone.
