My tach is marked around the typical 6500 for these "consumer" 5
cylinder cars. However, my fuel pump relay seems to be "special" in
that it has yet to invoke the over-rev shutoff.
I have bounced it off 7000 a few times, though I try not to do it under
load - I'd hate to discover the point of no return! It sounds good up
there, though, and when it happens on the road it still seems to be
happily pulling away.
This is a fairly stock NG in an '89 90Q. About 250,000 miles or so,
some 20v exhaust pipes (60 mm vs 55 mm), not much else other than being
kept clean and happy. Oh yes, I also installed one of those Hitachi
coils to replace the Bosch one it came with. I thought they were prettier.
Anyway, I think that even stock this engine will rev til it blows up.
How could the cam "affect" it, except to increase power or torque up
there? The FPR, as long as it is still working right, won't allow the
engine past its rev limiter anyway.
