Me thinks you've said the magic words . . . BRAKE FAILURES!!!!!

I am *sure* the NTSB and the DOT will be very interested in hearing about
these obviously safety-related failures on late-model cars - I also read
where they just made GM recall no fewer than 824,000 1997 through 1999 (I
think) cars because of a power steering assist problem - and you KNOW GM
would not do a recall that extensive unless they were forced to.

The best way to beat a bureaucracy is to turn a bigger bureaucracy loose on
it - other than the NTSB and DOT, the only worse one is the IRS (which
alas, doesn't apply in this case.)

Kurt Vonnegut (remember him?) coined a word for this - setting two
unresponsive, monolithic bureaucracies against each other - I think it was
a "Granfalloon". Sit back and watch the fun . . . remember that the NTSB
can *FORCE* Audi to do absolutely whatever it wants them to, and once they
are involved, Audi (and any other vehicle manufacturer) is just along for
the ride, and if Audi doesn't enjoy it, well that's just too damn bad.

And I hear BMW isn't much better - just different. Something about tuneups
on V-12s needing a pair of big dollar MAFs *each* time . . .

Best Regards,

Mike Arman
