No doubt the hub is hardened steel and a machinist would have a hard time
drilling it... maybe impossible.  You might have better success drilling a
second set of holes in the wheel but it might be ugly."

Naaahhhh.................  the hard part is centering and indexing the
holes, and making sure the hub centering ring is correct for the wheels.
They're not hardened.  Prolly cost a couple hundred bucks in shop time, but
it's a routine job for any competent machinist with an indexing head on his
mill.  The question, as I see it, was to use struts that would take both his
wheels and his brakes (and still fit the car), and that's a lot more
involved.  Depending on what car the brakes came from, it could be well nigh
impossible within any reasonable financial constraints.  John
