Did you have just studded tires on the front?  If so that was the cause 
of most likely 80% of the squirrelly handling.  Different slip angles 
front and rear and different tire casing construction also likely.
With studs all around not nearly as bad.  For the past 10 years or so 
all car manufactures put in the owners manual to only put snow tires on 
all 4 wheels if you are going to put them on.
