That information is incorrect, with regard to the type 81/85 distinction.

Ironically, the table isn't even filled out correctly - the "type 81" is
listed as being built from "7/84" until "8/78, 8/78, 11/80."

Nitpicking, I know, but the main point is that year is not what
distinguishes the type 81 fro the type 85.

The owner of that site does not even consider his information to be
certain, and I quote:

"The type-designations 81 and 85 are used here as a distinction between
pre- and post-facelift models. It could, however be possible that 81 is
for front wheel drive and 85 for quattro models. Fans you can confirm
either one or the other"

(from http://amkg.homeip.net/astory/old1/html/eb2.htm)

In fact, there are errors in a few places in that file, but who among us
can truly assemble definitive information on all these things in one
place wihtout a few errors?

>>> Type 81 cars are the 4000's with the double headlights 1984 and prior

>> Sorry, a 1984 4000 Quattro is a type 85, and has double headlights.
