I use nothing but VAG Synta Gold - fully synthetic.

However - I _have_ noticed that MCand MB engines really like to be close to the max mark on
the stick.  I usually fill both to the second row of dots below the max mark - I've heard
lifter noise on these engines at lower fill levels.
