Mike,
	You can solder the smt with an iron and regular solder wire. Care
should be taken to minimize thermal shock of the component. This is
accomplished by minimizing the duration and location which heat is
applied. The previous posts i've read are accurate. Some of the really
fine pitch will be difficult and you will lift pads on the board if
you're not careful. 600 to 700F at the tip is the common temperature
range. There are tips sized accordingly for smt.
