Jein, as the Germans say.

A long time ago in a universe far from here, I had one of the first ever Passats fitted with
an Audi I5 engine.

It was wonderful.  But very "skittish" on the Autobahn at speed.  Over 200kph was "iffy".

After discussions (I was a company car pool manager, buying two or three cars a month) the
dealership suggested I try the "air dam" - a deep front spoiler.

It reduced performance (0 -> 100kph & top speed) but it made the top speed so much more
comfortable and useable.

So yes - if you use the air to achieve an effect, you have to pay.  But in my case, the
tradeoff was acceptable.
