Everything in life, including what you eat and crossing the street, is a
matter of estimating and balancing risk, and deciding what's important to
you.

My time is extremely important to me - and I don't have time to go to banks
or post offices. I make it a point to avoid doing so, and probably succeed
in not setting foot in both combines more than 10 times a year. Fortunately,
there's a bank branch in the University student union so I can stop there
during lunch when I MUST get a cashier's check. My financial needs are
handled by ATM card...and I try never to use US mail of any package or
document that's important. They lose things.

Paypal isn't an option for me, it's a necessity. With around 300 feedbacks,
I'm small fish by Ebay and Paypal standards. My risk in using it is a LOT
less than driving my 280ZX on I-25 to Denver surrounded by SUVs (sometimes I
drive my Chevy Blazer and blend in....) There's no reason for a hacker to
single me out, and if they do, I'll deal with it. The convenience and
service provided by Paypal are valuable. It's the way I prefer to pay and
get paid for Ebay and anything else I can use it for. They take a small
percentage, and that's eminently fair. They provide a good service and
deserve to get paid for it; that's simply the cost of doing business.
