I went from a 88 80 Q to a 90 CQ. Downtown driving the 80q to have any real
power from a stop you had to torture the clutch(sons style of driving) On
the 90 CQ the torque starts 500 rpm higher in a heavier car so it's even
slower around town. But on the highway in the rev range the CQ is more fun.
The 88 80q is geared a little higher and more aerodynamic and lighter so its
gets better gas mileage down the freeway. The 90cq also has more body flex
(+ weight) when hard cornering. the 90CQ has bigger brakes ABS airbags
things I wanted. The 90CQ is one of my favorite coupe styles of all
time.( and rarer. They both (to me) on smooth Cali roads have too much dive
under braking, squat under acceleration and lean in cornering but that is
easily fixed. Talking about fixing the 90CQ has a lot more power accessories
stock not to mention the hydraulic system so its more expensive to fix. I
wanted a Lago blue 90 CQ in '90 that was on the dealers lot but ended up
with a 90 80 instead (I couldn't afford the extra $15,000 ) and I finally
have a Lago blue 90 CQ now ...happy( well it could use a 20VTurbo
transplant) in Eureka , Calif Lloyd

>I'm looking for some advice. I currently have within my family a '97 A4q
(daughter drives), a '97 Cabriolet (wife drives), and an '88 80q. The
latter was my first Audi and is still around for sentimental reasons, but at
~180,000 mi (odometer no longer working), it's seldom driven and I really
need to get rid of it. I'm currently driving a '95 Saab convertible, but
want to replace it with an Audi.

won't have an opportunity to drive the coupe quattro before purchase, so I'm
looking for some advice on whether or not to buy it. I'll have a mechanic
check out the car, so the car's mechanics aren't a significant concern to
me. What is of concern is whether I'll enjoy driving the car. I loved the
A4, before I turned it over to my daughter, and don't want to be
disappointed with the '90 coupe quattro. I also always liked the '88 80q,
but it was underpowered, especially compared to the A4. Is the increased
power of the 20v engine in the '90 Coupe quattro going to be similar enough
to the A4 to make the car enjoyable to drive?
