Sounds to me like your 80Q wasn't running right... my '89 90Q (same car, 
really, except heavier) is not a powerhouse by any means - but one place 
it does not lack is getting rolling.  Of course, I never used its AC, 
either, that might be a big drain.

Remember these were built before the mad rush for power of the 90's, 
which left any car with less than 200 hp seeming less than adequate.  To 
whom, or why, I don't know...
