V8 cast iron block

It looks like the early v8's (v8 q's) are cast iron just like the I-5, and only in the A8 line are the blocks aluminum. Maybe there are differences in Europe, but here in the US, aluminum blocks only came after '96 w/ the A8. This is always a good place to check out: http://www.audiworld.com/model/historical.html

as i've always understood it, that's audi's claim to fame that the V8's are aluminum.  As long as they've been made?  Cuz then they went to AL chassis's as early as 94 with the intro of the A8.  

Someone correct me if i'm wrong?!
