MAF sensor warranty-Fault codes?

What? WTF? Hold the bus?

I may be misunderstanding this....

Audi sends you a letter that basically sez we are having a lot of
problems with the MAFs in our 00 A6 2.7t.  Please bring it in to a
dealership to get checked out. Thanks for buying an Audi, blah blah
blah, we'd like you to buy another one, blah blah blah.

The dealership sez ok, we'll check it out but if yours is not faulty
it's going to cost you?

Is this correct?
Anyone else see a problem with this, or is it just me?

Basically looks like 1 more reason to buy older and not have to get
involved in this crap!
