The sensor for the guage is on the water outlet near the front of the 
head.  It is the white one with the non-locking connector.  One pin does 
the guage and one does the light for overtemperature.  The thermo switch 
for the fan is on the bottom, back, driverside of the radiator near the 
wheel well.

Yes it has hydraulic lifters.  It could be the lifters or it could be 
the vacuum pump on the side of the head.  Both of mine made noise when I 
first got mine.  There is a push rod behind the vacuum pump that runs 
off the cam.  If you remove the vacuum pump you can remove this rod and 
just reinstall the pump.  I guess this will reduce your braking boost on 
full throttle, but I have never had a problem (since that is not 
something I do).
