Importation of the S6 into the USA stopped Dec 31, 1995, because of the
1996 cal year requirement for OBD-II compliance. The S6 cars sold after
the introduction of the '96 model A6s were called '95 models by Audi and
were called 95.5 models by us civilians. The 95.5 importation stopped
as I said Dec 31, 1995. The 95.5 had most of the '96 A6 features.
Canada had a full year, as I understand it, of '96 models.

It may be like the V8 Quattro that Audi says they stopped importing
after the '93 model year, but that actually saw a handfull of '94 cars
imported. I've heard of people with Canadian "1997" S6 cars, this may be
the last few that made it in after the intro of the '97 models, or it may
be cars that were imported earlier but were not sold until after the
'97 models were available on the showroom floor. That situation used
to be very common with European cars in years past, like in the 50's
and 60's.

If this is real important, I'll ask over on the S-Car list. There are
one or two people on that list that have '97 S6 cars. Igor Kessel comes
to mind.
