cylinder index question

I have seen this cylinder counting before and I can't say I agree with the
logic.  Somehow I can't give a four cylinder Jap bike twice the "credit" of
my twin Ducati.  Or worse yet, two old lawn mowers would also be equal to
it!

Also, isn't the 5 cylinder Audi just cooler (on some level) than a V6?
There should be a complicated index of multipliers to be sure each cylinder
gets it's due credit.

If you are going to count cylinders, I also say we count the cylinders in
your compressor.  Even though they are not gas powered (well many aren't)
they still show the love for working on things that are.
