Fuel Pressure testing - CIS-EIII

In trying to overcome my reluctance to pressure test my CIS-EIII system, I found one more reason not to - I simply dont have the right adaptors, and never have had the special VW pressure tester oft referred to in Bentley et.al. In the past I did this successfully with standard manifold/AC guages and lines and a set of fittings I have had since the days of the Dasher and could do this on CIS systems.

While I chase down some proper fittings, I'm wondering if there is any merit to varying the procedure slightly, as I can test from either cold start injector port by putting a guage directly into that port. As best as I can tell from reading the service manual, this is system pressure but not passing through to the lower chamber.. whatever difference that makes.

I can also create a line into the test port (differential pressure?)

I just don't have the right configuration to have a guage positioned between both ports as shown in the procedure.

Still, wouldn't taking the readings independently off each port separately give me enough information to help narrow down most fuel pressure problems?

Has anyone on the list done this testing recently on CIS-EIII, or CIS-E for that matter?

Ben
