Auto editorial standards....

I gotta say, on a daily the fact-checking that is done is not going to be as
detailed on an automotive story (was it a car review?) than a piece on
killings in South Africa, Ireland or some other nation. The guy made an
error; it happens. Happens all the time WITHOUT accountability in plenty of
fields (Metro North trains, IT, your cable provider, phone company!). He
goofed...considering he is the guy who broke the coil pack story and was one
of the reasons AoA did the massive recall (rather than quietly fixing and/or
ignoring it), I'll cut him some slack.
Coming clean: I work in the automotive press (Auto Editor/Project Manager
for Consumer Reports), but have nothing to gain/lose/sway opinion by posting
this. It's purely my personal opinion, has nothing to do with my employer.
If you want to talk about fact-checking, e-mail me off list and I'll explain
what I go through at CR.
