help! typ44: exhaust smell when heater is on

ok..so i am not "smelling" carbon monoxide, but i am sure breathing it as its 
coming into the car w/ the exhaust smell that is blowing out of my heater 
vents... any ideas as to why this is happening?  can someone help?  this is a 
serious problem.. please only respond if you have an idea why this is 
happening...my GF has a small child,  and im worried that it will harm the child in 
addition to making everyone else sick too
