Dan,

There is some anecdotal evidence that seems to indicate that an early 
change (less than 10,000-15,000 miles) to synthetic oil in Audi engines 
leads to excessive oil consumption.  I know it's 'earl;y days' for you yet, 
but it would provide another 'data point' if you could post an oil 
consumption figure to the list (or send me an off-list email) when you hit 
the 15,000 to 20,000 mile mark (or so).

Ju adding another data point to the discussion... I converted my 98 Passat 1.8T to synthetic at it's first oil change (5,000 mi IIRC)...never consumed any oil over the 88,000 miles I had it. I also converted the Coupe GT 2.3 to synthetic at 130,000 miles, no consumption, no worse leaks than it already had (oil pan gasket issues)...
