I would search the archives. I recall this being discussed before. As
you know there are two methods of obtaining the rating. In the US these
numbers are averaged. Off the top of my head Europe uses just one of
these numbers (the higher one), but I can't remember which one it is. I
am sure someone can chime in with the answer. The result is their
octane numbers are higher. Most people confuse this as Europe having
better gas than the US.
As for what fuel to use. My JT engine got 3 full years of 86 octane and
loved it.
Maybe someone can answer a question for me. Why does California have a
lower octane rating on premium than the east coast? Every station has
93 and I think Sunoco has 94. It must be emissions related, but how?
