High perf tire selection question

There is a great difference between Sumitomo HTRZ2's and HTR+'s. The
former is a much more performance oriented tire than the latter.
I have another friend who was also very happy with his Nitto's, but
I'm not sure what model they were, though they were 17's.
I believe Michelin Pilots are very good, but they are also very expensive.
In looking back, I think I've only ever spent my own money on Dunlops,
Sumitomos, or Hakka's. This goes back to the early 90's. I think the
last other brand I bought was Pirelli; some P500's or something on my
CGT which I was happy with.
Currently I have Dunlop SP8000's on my V8 and Dunlop FM901's on my
CGT. I also wore out a set of the 8k's on my 200q. Wouldn't buy the
FM901's again, at least no for high performance driving. They're fine
for the CGT though. Tire Rack still have the 8k's and the HTRz2's in
some sizes.
Seems there used to be more less-expensive tire choices in the recent
past. Right now, it looks like Kumho and Yoko AVS/ES100's are about
it.

I have had the Michelin Pilots, Flaken, Sumitomo and Nitto Etreme 555s
on my wifes '02 A4 1.8TQM. THe Sumitomo HTR+'s were very noisey
By far the Nitto's perform the best. 245/45ZR-17. My oipinion FWIW.
I'm planning to put these on the new V8 5-speed along with my new A8
17x8 ET35 wheels.
Scott.
