Touareg V10

More, the problem lies in the sulfur content of the US diesel fuel.
Sometimes in the near future this content will be lowered and all diesel
engine form "the old countries" will be available in your country. Here in
Canada, this problem is non-existent.
In the same vein, and this will end my conrtibution to this thread, the
engine management of the V10 is just wonderful. Imagine that; there is an
electronic thermostat (to control the engine temp better), the wastegates
for the turbos are servo-controlled, air intake is measured by 2 MAFs,
exhaust is cleaned by 4 catalytic converters, there is 2 wide-band heated
O2 sensors, throttle by wire and so on... The engine management will even
modify the quantity of fuel for each cylinder to adjust for wear and/or
temporary misfunction.
No wonder why this engine is so "clean" and makes so little noise.
If somebody wants the VAG manual for the V10, I can forward it for
"evaluation purposes"; this is trully interesting stuff for gearheads. It
weights 8 Mb.
By the way, Touareg needs an "a", even if you pronounce it without...

True. Some states have too stringent emissions standards for the
v10tdi, or most any passenger car diesel engines for that matter. I
don't think it's a matter of the state approving it yet though. I
think it's more the other way around. The engine cannot meet the
emissions standards of those states. I believe they're working on
getting cleaner diesel fuel in the us to meet those standards. It's a
particulate emissions thing.
