Well, that is well said.

Being a gearhead, I do appreciate nice engineering a lot more than big sales
numbers. That's why I will always say good things about Subaru (just because
it still makes a flat-4) even if I won't buy one.

Think about this a minute: wouldn't it be a better world if;

- Citroen was still independent, riding on hydro-pneumatic springs and
steered by a monospoke wheel?
- Porsches was still air cooled?
- Peugeot, Alfa-Romeo, Chevrolet were still producing RWD sedans?
- Renault was still doing long wheelbase, weird looking, softly suspended
cars?
- Mazda was still selling Rotary-engined sedans?
- Audi still had a unique engine configuration?
- VW was still affordable, dead reliable and smelling that unique "VW-vinyl"
sent?
- Chrysler was still selling torsion bars/leaf spring, high-po, cheap
sedans?
- Volvo was still square?
- Saab was still Saab?

I guess all these "losts" in the car world will lead to a "wondercar" that
will make consensus among all bean-counters (and cause a massive suicide
wave among car buffs)...

It's not that I am against progress, but I do believe there is place for
other forms of technology than water-cooled 2.0L inline 4s, 60-degree V6 or
FWD.
Especially in a market composed of more than 60 automakers, proposing
thousands of models!

Car manufacturers are seeking for trouble when nearly each one of them wants
so cover all the personal vehicle market niches with just 4 platforms:
4 different size sedans, 1 sportscar, 3 SUVs, 1 minivan, 2 coupes and 1
crossover. And if you want to double your market share, just sell them under
another brand name and voila, a brand new car company!
However sees Toyota and Lexus in this description is totally right.

Dead to uniformity! Vive la difference! Don't buy a generic car! Encourage
the weirdos, so the next generations of gearheads will have something to
dream about. We will be thanked for that...

Peace.
