The mass appeal of Audis has long been that it's a German luxury car that
people who want to look rich can afford. Just like BMW, I think a few
people buy them because they're great cars, and a lot more buy them
because they're rolling bourgeois middle fingers.
The wheat is only really separated from the chaff when the car stops being
an elite status symbol and only the enthusiasts remain. Someone driving
an '85 Audi will be more interested in an Audi club windshield card than
J. Random Orthodontist in his '04 A6.
