Update:

Yesterday I thought the Audi gods were smiling on me. The local garage guys
(who were highly recommended by folks around the lake) came down first thing in
the morning, looked the car over - determined I probably need a starter, got
it started and drove it to their garage. They called later saying that I did,
in fact, need a starter which costs beaucoup bucks (of course) and about $150
to install. I said OK, relieved to be getting the car running again and so
soon.

It's never simple, though. I got a call this AM from the garage saying that
the new starter is apparently not the problem because now that its in, the car
still won't start. So, I went down there and they got it started for me with
some hocus-pocus under the hood and I drove it to Maple Hill Audi (back to
square one). They will look at it "when they can."

The good news it that the local garage only charged $35 to come get it. They
did not charge for the starter because that had not been the problem. So, I
guess I'm ahead on one brand new starter (the other one couldn't have been too
new) but I am sure that the dealer will make up for money (sort of) saved when
I get their bill. To tell you the truth, I'm hoping whatever is wrong is not
fatal. At 10, Baby has had an awful lot of parts replaced and I'm a little
scared that this could be it. Adding to the seriousness of that statement, I am
700 miles from home with a months worth of luggage and one Jack Russell Terrier,
who doesn't fly.

Wow! that's an interesting one! I guess if someone else can see if the
pulleys on the front of the engine are turning when she cranks it,
she'll know
