Beware the BMW (Breaks in Mysterious Ways) that hasn't had decent
maintenance. These cars are pretty reliable if things are kept in good
repair. On the convertible, make sure and pull up all the carpets and
check for stains/rust. If it has any electrical gremlins, run away, if
the seller hasn't fixed them to ease the sale, it usually means that it
can't be found or is too expensive to fix and you'll have to live with
it.

Aside from that, these are pretty reliable (for a BMW), and I personally
like the look of the BMW convertibles more than the Audi convertibles.

If you dig one up in the Boston area, I know a local BMW guru who can go
through the car with a fine tooth comb if you'd like.

Agree with you on the 2002 too, the most fun I've probably ever had in a
car was while driving a 2002ti many moons ago. Too bad they don't hold
up well in the rust belt, dumped the clutch on one once and the two rear
strut towers ripped up into the trunk.
