harness mount for 4 door

Here's how I mounted the AutoPower harnesses in my 80 Quattro (NA). I had
help to drill because I'm not very steady &:-).

The shoulder straps run over the seat and down to the lap points for the
rear OEM seat belt. This is adequate to prevent compression of the spine
should there be an accident.

When I examined the hardware at the belt mounting points, I found that
the new eye bolts supplied by AutoPower (into which I clip my harness
straps) are the same size and pitch as the bolts holding the OEM
mechanism. I unbolted the OEM mechanism (sorry for my lack of technical
expertise) -- the plastic gizmo into which the shoulder piece would
insert -- and screwed in my eye-bolt instead. I still use my 3-point for
street driving, I should probably clarify.

Check the Bentley and you might see for the lap belts there are existing
bolts -- again of the same size and pitch -- as the ones supplied by the
harness manufacturer. Only problem is you'll have to cut -- eek -- a nice
round hole in the plastic of the B-pillar (for the driver door side) and
.... lemme see... where did we put the inner mount ... oh shoot, I'll have
to continue this discussion after I've gone down to look at my car. I
think we cut a hole in the carpet or the plastic of the tunnel that covers
the eBrake and drive train. This piece is kind of tight, right before the
end of the seat track, below the back seat ashtray. I took the seat out to
do this.

For the submarine belt, my goal was not to prevent submarining but to
prevent creep of the harness up my waist and compressing my ribs. This is
the one point one might argue need for a different mounting point. We
drilled a hole into the metal frame of my seat, and screwed hardware in
there.

We used these same mounting points for both driver and passenger harnesses.

p.s. Since you brought it up ... pardon me if I misunderstood
... personally I wouldn't want to use a b-pillar bar as a mounting point
for a harness unless the bar is attached to a rollcage. I believe these
bars are intended as passthroughs for the shoulder straps, which are then
mounted like mine, in what would be the back seat.
