I think you are correct.  I have a KH also, but I do remember the MC 
being kind of oval/tear drop shaped.  My TB currently has no gasket, nor 
does my water outlet on the head.  Both are sealed with RTV.  (Neatly, 
not with gobs)  Great success so far.
