It's what we call an eratz S2 and there are several in existance in the US and several of us are currently building them.
The conversion is pricey and very time consuming. The car in the mag was mostly RS2 but not quite. It was missing a few minor items like RS2 mirrors and RS2 front bumper.
There is a mailing list dedicated to this conversion (eS2 list). The RS2 engine has been transplanted into Ur Quattros but I am not sure about other cars.
The 6 speed is available quite easily for about $3500. You can shop around and find them cheaper sometimes.
I imported (am importing) most of my conversion parts myself. It has taken me months and months to gather all the proper pieces including the floor section to move the battery under the rear seat and the factory strut brace.
Obviously it is a passion, no one in their right mind would put this much effort into a car!
