Mostly similar except where it relates to safety, emissions and other
US Federal-mandated differences. Also, there were less model, engine and
trim level variations offered in the US than in Europe.

Typically the line is where you want to set the static timing to,
and you do that at idle, with the timing light hooked up to the cyl #1
ignition wire. Depending on engine, some also require that you plug/unplug
certain vacuum hoses while adjusting the timing. Also the idle, ignition
timing, and fuel mixture should be adjusted together, because changing
one thing influences the others.
