| Subject: 90q subframe question |
>------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
I'm slowly trying to get everything sorted on this car. A couple of weeks
ago I finally got my '89 90q aligned. It has Bilstein sports, H&R's, new
ball joints and good tie rods. I noticed that at times the steering wheel
is about 20 deg. off to the right, and other times it seems straight. It
took a couple of days for me to nail down the symptoms completely. If I
take a hard right, the wheel stays off to the right after straightening up,
and if I take a hard left the wheel is straight after straightening up.
Knowing this I thought maybe the steering rack bushings may be worn
allowing the rack to shift left and right. Unfortunately after some
investigation, it appears that I don't have any rack bushings, the rack is
bolted to the body. Soo... all that is left is the subframe moving.
Anyone had similar symptoms?
On another note, I have way to little caster on the right side. The right
side wheel is about 3/4" farther back than the left. The subframe doesn't
look like it has shifted back, but looking at the right rear mount, it
could be in a bit which would pull the tire back. This car was a total
because of running off the road and ripping up the right rear suspension
and rear quarter. I'll do some more measuring this weekend and maybe get
on the frame machine and pull it a little.
Thanks for any input.
Dave.
