Dave,

Thanks for the info!  I had to clean the antenna every couple of 
months because it was not retracting. I tried to lubricate it and then 
realized that was a bad idea; after that I tried to keep it clean.

It actually got hit with a soccer ball and is broken right at the bottom 
where it enters the unit on the car body.

I'll definitely give it a try.
