Kent, based on the other comments made, I would go with #2 - you get to keep the Miata, have the quattro (which I would think would come in handy since it sounds like you will be dooing a LOT of driving) and it meets the space criteria that seemed to be foremost in your mind.
 
I'd also like to know what you're hauling!!
