That second thing.

When I got my '95 A6QA, I looked in to this, and the answer
is that you can trade it in for an Allroad with a stick and
still have a few thousand $$$ change. The conversion can be
done (if you can find a mechanic familiar enough with the car),
but it is likely at minimum a $5000-$7000 proposition.

You need a tranny, a new ECU set, dashboard, center console and some
major vaccuum plumbing changes.  Those are just the major bits. There
will be dozens if not hundreds of small things (like clips and bolts
and mounting brackets that are different underneath).

That just wasn't worth it for a car that probably will have
significant issues to deal with.
