Has front hub bolt been superceded with new design?

The bolt head makes no difference.  Buy the hex head socket, probably a
whopping $7 at your local flaps.  On the '90 V8Q's and 200TQ I've
received various style bolts in the boot kits over the years (the 5KS
uses a nut), some with regular heads and some with hex recesses.  Thread
size and length are what's important.  

You should never reuse an axle bolt or nut.  That being said, I've had to
reuse them on occasion and had no problems.
