No- never, ever start throwing parts at something. When you're in 
over your head, seek the services of a professional.

If I remember correctly, you're in Connecticut, in which case I would 
-strongly- suggest calling Greg Haymann at Autofirme (in Amenia NY, 
right on the CT/NY border) and setting up an appointment.  He's quite 
possibly the best Audi mechanic in the northeast.

Explain(and write down and leave with the car when you drop it off) 
all the symptoms, and what you have done thus far.  You mentioned gas 
mileage is a concern- mention that and, for example, explain that 
after this problem is sorted, if he sees anything that will improve 
mileage and won't cost much, to give you a ring and suggest it be 
fixed while he still has it.
