Hi Alain,

I have a 97 A4 1.8tqa and just had the transmission serviced at the local Audi dealer. It was about $200 US. I didn't change it myself since I wasn't sure of the procedure so I figured $200 is expendable every 30k miles until I figure how to do it.

Yeah and another thing. It does'nt have a dip stick, but according to the Bentley, the change of the TF for a manual is easier then for the AT. The procedure for the AT, if I can remember is something like this:

- hook up the diag computer
- wait for TF to reach specified operating temp
- read fluid level measurement from diag computer
- add ATF and wait for until operating temp reached again
- read fluid level measurement from diag comp
- etc

Didn't have the diag s/w and didn't feel like tackling this so I let the dealer handle it. Come to think of it, could have bought the diag s/w for about the cost it took for the ATF replacement.

A friend of mine wants to change the AT hydraulic fluid in its 1998 A4.
Problem is, dealer wants 525$ for this. I guess they replace some hard parts
but is this job an expensive one usually? Car has 130 000 km (80 000 miles)
and the engine is still stock.

Thanks

Louis-Alain
