Check Engine Light??

Gas cap tight?  If not, newer cars treat that as an error code since 
it is emissions-related.  It's one of those ease vs. likelyhood- not 
very likely, but easy to check, so why not.

Yes, pull the codes and find out what the deal is- don't clear them, 
they're obviously coming back and it'll possibly be helpful to your 
mechanic.  Newer cars log a ton of info about fault conditions, some 
of it can be useful.

Shucks, I'd just slap some epoxy on...if you prep the surface 
properly(clean it with degreaser, score/rough it a little, let it dry 
thoroughly) and the epoxy is suitable for plastic, it'll probably 
outlive the car.
