spring compressors getting in the way (front suspension)

I already pulled out the strut and replace w/ Bilstein Sports up front. The entire strut housing is off the car. All I want to do is compress the H&R spring so I can tighten the top nut cuz the books say there should be no spring tension on the nut or upper spring mounts. The problem is the spring compressor are too close to the spring, the threaded rod hits the lower spring seat and I can't place the spring all the way down into its seat. Also, I did find it useful to compress a few coils of the spring when pulling out the strut housing from the car. I'm sure I'll need something for putting 'em back in cuz the unloaded spring height makes it difficult to reattach the control arm to the strut housing. I don't know if it'll be easier w/ the lowered H&R's... I know a jack won't help, cuz the weight of the car is supported by the springs and just raises the whole car and doesn't compress the springs. Anyone experience anything similar? Maybe I'm just missing something. TIA.

HI i am curious why dint you pull out the strut?Unless you have a broken
spring i don't see no reason to bring those tools under the fender...unless
maybe if you put some bielsteins hd for a 5000 on a 4000 or audi 90 wich i
recommend to anyone: do not attempt!!( but now i have greatest shocks i ever
seen i can take any bump at almost any speed... however do not jump over 4
ft high with these...
