tire time

My '01 S4 is currently running a set of 2004 S4's 18x8 Avus wheels shod
with Continental SportContact2 tires, 235/40ZR18 97Y. I am quite pleasantly
surprised by its superb all around performance, and it is quiet too!
Much better than the Pirelli P6000s that the car came with. Now the
car cruises on the highway like a magic carpet ride. What I once thought
was engine hum is *gone*. Turns out it was tire roar. The Contis
have excellent grip in the twisties too.

The SportContact2 is supposed to be a big improvement over the original
SportContact, and I believe it.

Also highly recommended to me was the Toyo Proxes T1-S. This was the tire
I was going to buy, but instead I bought the new wheels from someone
with a new S4 which came with the Conti tires already mounted.

The Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position is another max performance
favorite, but apparently it becomes noisy after wearing in a bit. Also
high on the list is the Michelin Pilot Sport. These are quite expensive.
