Politics on this mailing list

Argh!, I'm tempted out of lurk mode by politics!

Can I suggest that the key to the matter should be principle of trying
not to offend other people with what you say or do. i.e. common good
manners.

So the technique has to be, before you post, think if it's likely to
p$%^ anyone off. If the answers liable to be 'Yes' then the polite thing to
do is reconsider. If you're feeling mischevious/bolshy enough, then
continue, and see if anyone turns out to be upset. *However* at that point
if someone *does* declare themselves pi***d off by what you said, and it's
not a directly audi related issue, then please for everyone's sake, (and so
that we don't have to start coming up with freedom-limiting rules) desist
from whatever it is that's the cause.

So I regretfully propose that Rocky may want to consider changing his
sig-line. I'd emphasise that I don't personally find it offensive, I'm a
live-and-let live type myself, but obviously someone on the list is offended
by it, and so we should respect that view. The alternatives would be thing
like majority votes/ polls etc, in which case I would vote that Rocky is
free to keep his sig line, but of course thats a much more difficult way of
deciding these issues..

This of course should apply across the board and therefore makes the
sig-line/or-not argument redundant. After all I agree with Greg when he says
they can be the best part of a post. (My vote goes to Bob Myers for
consistent humo(u)rous sig-line content)

MAC, Lister Thackrah was kind enough to drop off some ronals for me to
use while I get mine refurbished. Can anyone confirm that as fitted to the
87 CGT's they were painted Zermatt Silver? And recommend anyone in the UK to
do the refurb?

    Cheers (and peace)

a number of other unrelated tag lines, which up to this point have gone
unremarked. I would have to say whether or not one personally agrees, it's
an all or none situation. either the taglines are allowed and unlimited or
not allowed at all. With the state of things lately I'm very troubled by the
trampling of free speech. I'd prefer not to see it creeping into a forum
which i quite enjoy. Keep the content of your emails to audi etc..., and if
you don't like the tag line don't read it....
