I am of the opinion that the human mind is a *very* powerful thing.
I have had the occasion to need to plow the snow from my driveway to allow a
delivery truck or a non-quattro friend up to the house (that is the extent of
my Audi content here). Due to the deep snow, I have to don my big mountain
hiking boots as I head out to my 1970 Chevy K10 four-wheel drive plow truck ...
no drive-by-wire, no ECU, nothing but a throttle cable. Imagine my terror as I
depress the brake (I *swear* I was solidly on the brake) while heading directly
towards my 1000 US gallon propane tank and my engine races!
The cause, my boot is wide enough to be on *both* pedals even with several
inches between the brake and accelerator. Obviously, since I am recounting
this to you now, the 1970 technology braking system (all drums!) was sufficient
to stop the progress of the 350cc V8 engine at high revs.
At the time, in my mind, as weak as it is, I was on the brake solely and the
engine was acting on its own. I can see how these cases can come about. I can
also see that they are likely in error.
FWIW ...
