Check in the passenger (and perhaps driver's...) door jamb, specifically
the white and black/green wires. These are both supposed to carry
grounds to the downstream switch when the upstream one is inactive. If
one is broken, you could only operate the window in one direction.
Don't just splice them as they lie, remove a section of wire so your
splices are in the door and in the body, where they won't be flexing.
Sorry if that's less fun than you wanted in order to sell the car.
